Top floor Exhibition: ‘And Then a Sudden Sun Explodes’ by Tim Copsey @timcopseypottery
As a potter from the Peak District, Tim’s pottery is on the border between function and sculptures. His work is deeply inspired by Japanese forms and techniques which he experiments in his collections.
Top floor event (Sold out): A Zen Conversation between East and West Ikebana workshop with Junko Popham @junkoikebana Dec 9, 1-4pm
With the aim to enjoy the mindful dialogue between East and West, participants will be using exhibits by Tim Copsey to practice Ikebana with Junko. Originated as a tradition of offering nature to Zen Buddha in Japan, Ikebana is a centuries-old Japanese art of flower arrangement, giving flowers another life to thrive and create beauty of the moment.
1/F Exhibition: ‘Kachoufuugetsu’, a Tsumami-Zaiku exhibition by Cora Fung @takara.sheffield
Originated in the Edo period, Tsumami-Zaiku is a craft using pinching and folding of delicate materials into beautiful statement headpieces for Maiko in Japan. It has since been popularised and is also used in jewellery and home decor. If you’d like to know more about the craft, there’ll be artist demonstration on Dec 9.
G/F: Pop up store by Yuka
A selection of made in Japan products ranging from tableware, skincare to Japanese rice and miso will be available at Saan1 Fest. Just in time for some Christmas shopping.
